The Furniture Finishing Company

A disappointing end to a good start! We engaged Furniture Finishing Company at Mittagong in January & May 2025. Each job consisted of multiple banks of shutters to be resprayed. Extra charges were added for transport to/from their warehouse at Mittagong and removal/reinstall. NOTE: These charges were a large part of the total cost. Although expensive, we accepted the quote as this work was not offered anywhere else near us in Wollongong. Jan job totalled $3581, May job totalled $2480. The January job went relatively smoothly, although it took a week longer than advised and when chasing up the progression of our job it took 6 days to receive a reply. I found the customer service lacking throughout both dealings with this company. The second job in May had big reinstall problems. Reinstallation started on a Wednesday and after 5 1/2 hours only 1 single panel was hanging out of 8! Unbelievable! The guys left saying they'd be back but we had no communication from Furniture Finishing for 2 days. Installation resumed Saturday. After another 5 1/2 hours finally one bank (4 panels) was hung & operating. So, 11 man hours for a 1 1/2 hour job.. By this time it was 7pm and the second bank of shutters was still to be finished but was missing a couple of screws ( later found on the floor), missing a hinge & one corner of the frame wasn't square so shutter was hanging askew. My husband chose to finish that job himself. Also both frames were damaged but no damage was pointed out to us at reinstallation. Would we use Furniture Finishing Co. again? NO Not until they improve their customer service/communications & improve their quality of workmanship. On a positive note, we have no problem with the shutter respray, they did a good job.

I was very disappointed with the quality of work by the Furniture Finishing Company. I engaged them, and paid thousands of dollars, to ensure a highly professional refinishing of two bedside drawers and chest of drawers. The furniture items were delivered to us last week with multiple marks and damage to the timber which could have easily been filled and sanded as part of the finishing process. There were also lots of coffee stains on the bedside tables which hadn’t been cleaned, so on delivery the whole lot looked worse for wear. Worst of all, the company had not taken the time to tape over, or remove, the metal runners which were totally sprayed over - meaning all the drawers are now really difficult to open. I fully acknowledge these were second hand items, and they will never be perfect, but the whole idea was to give them a professional finish, which I assumed included some basic sanding and filling. Certainly the price I paid should have covered this. Like the other reviewer, I found communication delays throughout the process, and when I raised the complaints above, there was no reply.

These plantation shutters were faded and damaged, but the team did a fantastic job restoring them as new. The fresh white coat is smooth with no streaks visible and the finish is professional. It has completely changed and uplifted the feel of the living room. Super happy with the result and highly recommend The Furniture Finishing Company!

I had a great experience with the team. Their team was very friendly and demonstrated their knowledge when they painted our shutters. Before the plantation shutters were painted the rooms were boring but now they have a really nice vibe to them now. The staff arrived on time and disassembled everything to take it offsite. They also called me to say that they were on their way. The paint were high quality and I plan to use the team again for another property I have. I can’t recommend them enough.
