Our experience with Jim's Roofing and the Jim's Group has been absolutely terrible. After first receiving the quote, we received a follow up that they had made an error and the quote increased by more than $10,000. We still decided to go with them, in no small part because of the security of the 'Jim's Guarantee'. The works were due to take "about a week" and ended up taking nearly 2 months, during which time we lost access to our parking and driveway, and we were unable to carry out the other renovations, as their edge protection was partially blocking our entry. The very next day after the works were finished we experienced a roof leak (to the new roof). When we asked for a compliance certificate the Jim's franchisor advised it wasn't a requirement. We confirmed with the Building and Plumbing Commission that it IS a requirement. We asked about warranties and were sent the Jim's guarantee (the contractor sent us a link to the website). We had an independent person assess the new roof and they advised of a number of defects, including (but not limited to) incorrect flashing, poorly lapped roof sheets, missing flashings/barges, non-compliant guttering and downpipes, significant rust, and water pooling). They also broke our tv antenna. We then came to find out later that the Jim's contractor was unlicensed. Jim's had another roofer inspect the works and he communicated to them (and us) that the roof needed to be ripped off and done again, it was unsalvageable. Jim's offered to refund our money and walk away - leaving us with a defective roof and needing to do MORE work than before they started. We declined and asked that they simply abide by the Jim's Guarantee, and make things right. They had seen the report of the roof and the pictures, and they agreed to replace it in its entirety (as it was pretty clear that it was not fit for purpose), and that it would be done by a licensed plumber this time, and that we would get a compliance certificate within 5 days (as is the requirements under the legislation). The roof works were completed a month ago and we still don't have a compliance certificate (they couldn't issue as the plumbers' licence is expired). They didn't fix the tv antenna either. I would strongly urge anyone to look around, and not to consider this company for any works. In our experience the JIM'S GUARANTEE counts for absolutely nothing.
One star is still too much. AVOID Jim's Roofing Carnegie!!!! Been dealt with Jim's franchised business a few times now and this was the worst. *He asked for very high deposit 35% *We paid the deposit before Christmas, however start date been kept pushing back, to the end of Feb for various reasons, car broken down, surgery, too hot, too windy, emergency, etc etc or even not came for no reasons. * Promised to come but never tuned up. We adjusted our work to meet him so many times but he just didn't come. Chased him up and he just said in an hour, however still not come. *He did come until we told him to refund. He came in late on that day, just quickly did pressure washing within 1 hr. Then rushed off for school pick up. *Chased him again, just did half of roof tile repointing (took 2 hrs) *We keep on chasing, he finally did roof painting, then he later blamed us for forcing him to work on a 30 degree day. *Asked us to pay another $2000 so that he can fix his van, ridiculous. *Asked us again to pay $2000 for him to pay his roof plumber, we said no way. *Most shocking: We just did roof painting so far and we had enough with all the delays and issues. When we told him to cancel all the rest of jobs (guttering and eve fixing), he said he just ordered the material and asked us to pay him back. Then he blamed me for cancelling last minute. He then sent us a QUOTE and ask us to pay. Excuse me???? He was so stupid that he just sent the quote with all the information. And we can see the quote was not even under his name!!!. Double checked with the supplier, that it was not paid. Totally a SCAM!!! *Very poor workmanship, cement was simply flopped on when doing roof tile repointing. Many cracks on the ridge not fixed, broken tiles not replaced. Everything been done in such a rough way. Asked him to rectify however he insisted us to pay him in full first. * He put his paint, spray machine and other stuff at our place. Said will pick them up but still not come on that day. He warned me if his stuff are missing, I have full responsibility. Nasty person. * He left his rubbish intentionally in our front yard when he finally came in to pick up his stuff. I will make complaint to Jim's due to how terrible our experience with him. I promise these are all true. Sounds ridiculous but these are all what happened to us.
Worst experience ever. Still not resolved 6 months later. Contacted Jims roofing. They sent us one of their franchisees, who came out and gave us a quote for a full roof restore and full gutter and downpipes replacement. - The worker and his team broke tiles while on the roof and hid them at the gutterline rather than replace them. - Leveled the 'new' gutters so badly that many sections just held water instead of fall towards the downpipes. - In some locations used wrong color and type (non slotted) gutters. Some were all scratched (and he touch up painted them with the wrong paint) - Extremely poorly connected our downpipes, with one that just fell apart after the first rain (because the gutters also got pulled out of the fascia, because of the lack of level and water weight and as the clips were skrewed in with 1cm length skrews. (more cost cutting?) - Resulted in masses of water going under the house damaging our foundations. -Damaged roof while on it, with water now leaking into the eaves. - Glued together broken tiles with repointing material rather than replace tiles for the "Full roof restore" ... A million other details of how bad the work was too, but I'll spare. We then started asking about their license... That of course Jims group assures all their franchisees are. - He did not have the any plumbing qualifications for the plumbing works he undertook. - He was not VBA registered or licensed as required for a job of this cost. - Took a 40% deposit for a ~$14,000 job. contravention with the domestic-building-contracts-act-1995 - Has gone bankrupt and not supplying insurance details. Over the 6 months, this has been told to the area managers, their phone support and Jim himself. No real care was given and no accountability was taken (either ignored, or lied to being told"He wouldn't be a franchisee if he wasn't licensed) An "audit" was conducted by another of their roofers they sent out (that took months to get them to do). They did a report confirming none of it was up to scratch. They gave a quote for them to fix it... This cost MORE than the original work. Easy way to drum up more business for yourself? This person quoting to do the work was also not VBA registered. Eventually got in contact with Jim - who I experienced to be rude and dismissive. (and again, unbothered by knowledge his franchisees were working illegally" --- We were inquiring about getting their insurance details (with the roofer now bankrupt) and to contact their legal dept. wrt their unlicensed workers. He proclaimed "Our people have made multiple attempts to fix your issues, including arranging a third party inspection to see what needs to be done. Their suggestions are more than fair, and I do not intend to get involved. you can't make an insurance claim for a problem we're trying to fix. If you want to go legal, you'll need to get your solicitor involved." The last contact the area managers had with me was over 90 days ago saying they'd get back to me after talking to their legal dept. They're absolutely not attempting to fix anything and have only provided a 'solution' of enter another contract and pay more to Jims to get another of their workers to maybe fix the problems caused by the first... As if your business would ever see a cent from me again.
Linda is dead right. This company is aggressive in their business practices, manipulative in their quoting, and is clearly aware to be breaching Australian Consumer Law as I found out when I hesitated to pay the final 50% and sought advice from Consumer Protection. Stay well away. $2000+ for just over 1 hour's work and $50 worth of materials? You've got to be joking! Oh, and when I notified them of their legal obligations, they quickly reduced my debt to $0. What I had already paid was way more than the job was worth. They are clearly afraid of any official scrutiny.
Called Jim's Roofing to come and look at my leaky roof and give a quote to fix. Payed $141.90 upfront. When the guy came over told me that I had to pay a further $639.90 for him to look at the roof and give me a quote. So $781.80 and he has done absolutely nothing(besides damaging the manhole)and hasn't given me any written quotes. Not happy. Tried calling Jim's Roofing to complain and no one will help me. Please avoid this company.
