Highlights
“I have nothing but praise for John Lyngs Group. They contacted me with all details of the works for my insurance claim. All tradies involved called me and turned up right on schedule. I know others have had some negative experiences but these guys have certainly stepped up imo. I am a genuine customer (not a stooge) btw. I can fully recommend Signature Ceilings and Walls and Tongue and Groove Flooring too, the service was exceptional. I can genuinely see why RAC choose John Lyngs Group as their preferred insurance builder.”

The absolute worst company that I have ever dealt with. They have been avoiding phone calls and emails. Our house has been unliveable for well over 12 months now. JLG have not met one ECD of about 4 agreed to. We are now on our 3rd supervisor and once again can’t contact the latest one. I can’t empathise enough the grief they have caused us over the last 14 months or so and still no end in sight unfortunately. The QLD state manager told us back in February that he would investigate and sort it out soonest. Still not completed in mid May.
Incompetent company, no idea how Youi can deal with them!
Came to !y house a month ago to inspect an insurance claim on my oven. NRMA are still waiting for the report, there technician was in my home for ten minutes, joke of a company.
Where to start...The three missed completion deadlines (would have been four if we hadn't problem-solved for the PM), or the litany of quality control issues, culminating in a flooded kitchen from a shonky dishwasher install? JLG has been the poster child for stereotypes associated with the building industry (e.g., never do what they say they will). If they are appointed by your insurance company, I'd suggest asking if there's an alternative.
Terrible experience. After 7 weeks of waiting still cannot get a scope of works for insurance repairs. Assessor missed half of the damage. They haven't returned calls. They brushed off a complaint. A different story from everyone I have spoken to. A company contact was assigned to my claim and then made redundant the next week (which I only found out from the insurer). They have not met the time frames they have set for themselves. Lost the asbestos report, which you would think would be treated with some care. JLG did have a fantastic make safe crew, but they were sub-contractors. Once the make safe is complete ask the insurer to change builders to avoid a long and frustrating wait ahead of you.

been in the construction industry for 30 years and the quality of work that these so called builders has produced is the worst i have ever seen. they completed our office renovation, engaged by the realestate agent, and you should see the state of it. it’s like stevie wander has done the work himself. the site supervision during the project was non existent, and when concerns have been raised to their office, nothing was done. a month after handover and we still have a door that doesn’t close, skirting that is falling off, in finished painting works etc etc. what ever you do, stay clear of these clowns
Keep them away from your property at all times. Do not waste your time with this greed driven outfit of liars and non real management acting with no communication and no responsibility. Quality of workmanship zero. Quality of care or concern zero. Time delay from start to finish of works maximum (in our case 4 months to replace a door frame assembly with retrofit after break and enter. Simply not worth the life experience that this business presents to customers. A definite business plan of deceit prevails when you discover the many other bad experiences suffered by many persons over many years in many locations around Australia. Do not let your insurer engage this business on your behalf. Keep right away.
John Lyngs Group Perth Western Australia. I managed a storm damage (fence) insurance claim for my elderly parents who are insured with the RAC in WA. Unfortunately John Lyngs group was the builder who was given the job however, JLG then contracts the repairs out to another contractor. The first fence replacement was a total botch up and JLG attempted to have the issues patched up. I refused this and the end result was another fence was to be installed. After a meeting with all concerned it was agreed that a second contractor would send experienced trades people to replace the first fence. The second contractors (Firm Fencing WA) arrived only to be advised that they had never installed a timber lap fence. Whilst this install was better than the first there where issues and no one would return to address them. JLG ignored any emails sent and after 2 months of emails to the RAC JLG telephoned my pensioner parents and talked them into into rectifying the issues themselves. In effect having them agree that the job was done to their satisfaction. Avoid this company like the you would the plague. Unfortunately I had to leave one star .... they do not deserve that.
What an awful bunch of people to deal with. Our house was flooded during a freak storm in March 2023. Our insurer (Allianz) used Johns Lyng Insurance Builders to carry out the repairs to our home. I live here with my partner and my elderly, vision-impaired father whom I care for. After making a claim with our insurer Johns Lyng's 'Makesafe' team wasted no time tearing up the lower level of our home. They jackhammered up the floor tiles and stripped everything back to nothing (photos attached). They even cut the hot water system at the pipe and didn't care that we hadn't organised temporary accommodation yet! Communication was extremely poor - when I finally spoke with JLG Supervisor … he was totally unaware that his own Makesafe team had stripped our house bare. After the JLG supervisor attended our house in person, he could not believe the state the Makesafe team had left it in. Concrete dust covered everything on the unaffected upper level. Our furniture, bedding, everything was covered in concrete dust as they didn't block off the stairs to the upper level! After months in temporary accommodation and dozens (maybe hundreds) of phone calls, begging JLG to come back and rebuild our home, they advised that they were too busy and didn't have time to do it. Then a whole other nightmare began trying to get a payout from the insurer (Allianz) so we could start rebuilding our home ourselves. JLG made sure they delayed this process by providing an incorrect scope of works over and over, (leaving out major works everytime) - this went on for months. Absolutely the worst experience of our lives!
An assessor from Lyings Insurance Builders came to assess the damages claimed for. Excess of $750 paid to the above party on 11 July 2024. Also paid for minor work to be done prior to repairs on 29 July & also emailed Lying Insurance Builders. I then spoke with Daniel from Lyings Insurance Builders who was not made aware the minor work had been carried out as no one had notified him. He then claimed repairs would be carried out ASAP. He advised me via sms that I would be contacted by the trades people with a date for the work to be done. A week later I had to contact Daniel once again as there was no communication from Lyings Insurance Builders or the trades people. I called Daniel to advise him. I got an sms from the 1st tradesperson who advised they would be carrying the repairs on 2 September. The 2nd trades person advised they would carry out repairs on 9 September a week after. Today the 1st tradesman advised he is unable to carry out the work this week as I was told & he would get back to me when he is free. No communication from Lyings Group again to me or it seems the trades people they have delegated the work to be carried out to. There has been virtually little communication during this whole claims process from Lyings Insurance Builders & the repairs haven't even started for almost 2 months & there still isn't an estimated date when the work will start.
What a disgrace, Company is useless, no communication, poor workmanship, 7 months to complete after a number of attempts. Supervisor didn't want to come and inspect poor finished workmanship. They said this was the best they can do and nobody would see it. Company repairing floor should be banned. John Lying should be ashamed of even using these contractors. John Lying supervisor was an oxygen thief, didn't even contact us to let us know what was going on. We had to take control and do all the ringing. RAC should be ashamed of even using them.
John Lyng group were contracted by an insurance company for an inspection due to house damage. It took over 2 weeks for the site inspection and the guy was onsite for 5 minutes. I say he was onsite and not inspected as I’m not even confident one was even done. He took photos on the mess on the ground, where it came from (ceiling) but didn’t look for cause or reason for the damage. A month later, the insurance claim was denied citing the report. On inspection, the report had multiple errors (dates, photos etc…) it was really substandard. Overall, it was a pretty poor experience, unprofessional, slow and have zero faith in them as a company.
These images are after their first, second, third and fourth fix…………..If I could give zero stars I would. I will not say the person they sent was a tradesman as they caused more damage than the original work!!!!!!!! But after 4 or 5 attempts and well over 4 months ( that’s since they started!!!) to fix a weeks work, I have just been advised by my insurer to seek my own quotes to fix their mess. Avoid them like the plague. There is also a massive FB group regarding other’s experiences, I suggest you review this before using them and certainly before approving any scope of works.
7 months down the track for what in total will be about an 8 day job. They employed a non licensed tradie for the work that was required. Literally lied to weekly. Text message proof that I have had weekly promises it will be finished that week with no one turning up. No surprises I was told it would be finished this week (19th May) and now told it won’t be! I am appalled at the quality of the work and delays. We are the ones actually paying for this as we pay insurance premiums.
We had our insurance claim looked at by John Lung group. The foreman/supervisor was lazy, told them multiple times to check my roof space for water damage and had not done until their final visit. Water damage to our walls, ceiling and eves was the main claim. They sent me a painter that sounded like he knows what he was doing but in reality he was shoddy, the walls were of unmatched colour. Claims to have put in stain blocker on our ceiling prior to painting bit sadly for us, we found out 8 months later the painter had not done that because the paint had started to peel and when we scrape back the paint, we notice the stain. The supervisor had said to us 'he is the best painter on my contact!'. Imagine that. Never trust this group of monkeys. The under quote the insurance company and probably paid peanuts to the painter hence the shoddy job. If I could give ZERO star, I would.
My insurer wanted to use JLG to do repair work as a result of storm damage. They sent me a contract to sign and pay. I asked whether they could detail their scope of work and was promised the detail from their supervisor. This was over a week ago and I have received nothing. They previously had appointed two contractors come out to do estimates and the first estimate was apparantly wrong so needed to send another estimator out. Their contractor was rude and unprofessional and when given their report was full of false information. When I called them to speak with their estimator with my concerns, the estimator would not speak with me and I was told to go through my insurer. If this is the kind of attitude they have prior to the work, I can only imagine what it will be like once they are given the contract.
Dealing with this company was terrible. The job was continually delayed and in the end it took the contractor 8 months to remove asbestos after my home burned to the ground. Once the job was completed I was appalled to see the end result. Big healthy trees nowhere near the fire debri were uprooted and badly damaged by their machinery. Retainer walls knocked down and not fixed, bricks and steel posts left sticking up out of the ground and lots of other debri just left laying around. To make it worse the contractor returned to do a better job however the trees and most of the other mess were just left there STILL. I have had to pay someone else to do a clean up. I was reimbursed $500 to replace a twenty year old tree . I would never recommend this company to anyone. After the distress of losing everything I own in a fire, dealing with this company was another trauma.
I had an absolutely atrocious experience with this company spanning over twelve months, in the end after multiple complaints and phone calls to my insurer I had the settlement paid out instead. From the get go this was a horrible experience. I had to email and call multiple times to get them to even take my excess, every time the lady at the head office kept telling me work couldn’t commence until the excess was taken but I provided my details several times - I have never had to beg a company to take my money?! Then after 3 months my house was gutted leaving us with no amenities and… that is how it’s remained for seven months. During these months I’ve been appointed four different “supervisors”, none of whom were able to get anything done. I spent hours spent making calls which were unanswered and not returned by the supervisors or passed along and brushed off by the staff at head office, as well as sending multiple emails - all which went unanswered. No one from JLG cared that the job was at complete standstill leaving me with no amenities and even no floor for months and months at a time. I was never offered an apology or any form of compensation for this. Thankfully my insurance company saw how ridiculous this situation became - they had the same issues and couldn’t contact anyone when trying to escalate and discuss my job. If you are ever assigned John’s Lyng Group by your insurance company, RUN. Refuse them. They will make your life a living hell. This is only getting 1 star because it’s the minimum I can choose. I’d rate -1 if it was possible. EDIT: we sourced a private tradesmen to perform the repairs needed after the insurance settlement was sorted and the works took one individual 4 hours to complete - not sure why it took JLG seven months to even start
I have contracted to John lyng for several years, but I won't be doing any work for them in the future. Projects that should only take a month or two, often drag out for more than a year. Clients are left stressed and inconvienced. Contractors are usually paid several months late or not at all .
