Highlights
"This is a rather late review for Smith and Smith kitchens. I can’t sing their praises highly enough. They were magnificent from start to finish, on budget and on time. In January 2024 we were faced with the task of renovating my elderly mother’s water damaged 1960’s kitchen in a 1920’s brick house. It was a challenging job, both in design and execution. As I live interstate, we had limited time to organise everything while Mum was out of the house and in Aged Care Respite following a fall in December 2023. The first week of January is not usually a good time to find someone willing to come out and look at any job, let alone a complex one like Mum’s kitchen. However Beth Paron, a Smith and Smith designer, made time and after an initial inspection, brought in builder John Adams. They were both fantastic. They discussed the particular construction challenges, were realistic and careful not to over promise, but positive in their creative approach. Once John was satisfied that the work could be done structurally, Beth went ahead with working up a design. Apart from ‘old brick house with heritage overlay’ construction challenges, there were budget constraints, and the design had to be familiar enough and practical enough for my elderly mother to feel comfortable using it. Beth excelled on all design counts, finding aesthetically pleasing but creative and practical solutions to meet our brief. She made the slightly scary daunting task ahead of us, feel do-able. We returned to Brisbane knowing we were in good hands. Finessing of the design happened over Zoom. Builder John Adams and his offsider Tim Cook were amazing. The strip out and prep for the new kitchen was a huge job. I have never seen people work so hard, and always pleasant and professional. When the tiler injured his back and was unable to do the extensive backsplash, Tim Cook and John Adams stepped in and completed the job. It was fiddly and the end result was so impressive, complete with mitred edges around the old stove recess. Everyone who worked on the kitchen was wonderful. Smith and Smith were always responsive to our time constraints and juggled contractors to get the job completed in time for Mum to move home after a lengthy convalescence. (Mum ended up staying where she was, but that’s another story.) Re the budget, some jobs, e.g. electrical, plumbing and plastering, were bigger than the initial estimate, but that is to be expected in an older house. There were a couple of minor defects noticed after installation of cabinetry. Randall and Warwick Tidyman from Smith and Smith rectified these very quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. In summary, Smith and Smith Kitchens were excellent in all respects- design, execution and management of the process. I can recommend them without hesitation. Rosie Gall"

"Smith and Smith Kitchens were a pleasure to work with . Laurie came up with the perfect design to fit in the space of our old kitchen but with heaps more storage and better function. The finished product is superb with beautifully gliding , self close drawers and cupboards. All the cabinetry is top quality and the staff and tradies were very professional. Highly recommend."

We had nothing but problems from the very beginning with Smith and Smith. When they installed the cabinetry, it was installed out of level so when they went to put the doors on, they didn’t fit due to misalignment. All the cabinetry had to be pulled down and reinstalled. Some of the cupboard doors were ordered in the wrong colours and others were damaged, it took 3 attempts for the company to order the correct doors so we were without doors for months. The stone benchtop around the oven was cut too small and our oven has been jammed into the space so tightly that the front face of the oven is popping off because it doesn’t fit between the bench. But that’s not the worst of it! Our Caesarstone benchtop has cracked though in front of our sink about four years after installation. The kitchen is supposed to be covered by a 10 year warranty, but Smith and Smith have wiped their hands clean of any responsibility. Someone from Smith and Smith came to inspect the benchtop and said that the damage must have occurred due to customer fault- said that we must have put too much weight on that part of the bench or placed something hot on it. Neither of which have ever happened. He even went as far as saying that you shouldn’t even lean a hand on the benchtop to support yourself when standing up from the floor- which for a stone bench stop sounds absolutely ridiculous! We weren’t happy with this and so Smith and Smith told us that we had to deal with the stone supplier directly ourselves, to which is actually illegal for Smith and Smith to palm us of to deal with their supplier. Smith and Smith provided us the contact details of the Stone company who supplied our benchtop and we contacted them to come and assess the damage. A member from the stone company came out to assess the damage and said that Smith and Smith had not installed the benchtop correctly because the thin stone section in front of the sink which had cracked should have been reinforced by a steel rod to provide sufficient support and strength to this area of the bench, and this had not been done. When this information was relayed to Smith and Smith the boss said that he didn’t personally know this member who came to assess the damage from the stone company and didn’t trust his opinion. Again the company wiped their hands clean of the warranty. Do NOT deal with Smith and Smith! If you have any issues they will wipe their hands clean. We are now seeking legal advice.

Smith and smith were fantastic to work with on such a big project. The designer was able to come up with a simple and workable layout that met our needs with ease (others spent longer coming up with layouts that just didn't meet our brief). The install was rescheduled 3 or 4 times due to lockdown. And each time smith and smith were understanding of our needs, working within the rules and ever so calm. Having shopped around to ensure we engaged a suitable company, we are now so thankful we had smith & smith to manage our kitchen design, manufacture and install.
This is our second Smith and Smith kitchen and we found them to be efficient, helpful and friendly again. Sue our designer gave us some really good ideas and the final product was really great. Thanks again to the Smith and Smith Team.
I love my new kitchen and laundry, again with SmithandSmith. Laurie was my designer, John was an excellent installer, all the trades were expert tradespeople, and together we created the perfect kitchen exactly as I wanted it to be. One year on, it is still perfect and I am now looking at designing my study. Thanks to Laurie and Smith and Smith, they are quality through and through
Smith and Smith replaced our kitchen, pantry and laundry in late 2014. The process was fairly straightforward, with Laurie, our designer, putting together a kitchen that is both functional and high-quality. Installation started on time and the work was completed according to schedule and budget. The work was also completed to a high standard, with a few post-installation issues quickly rectified. We were really pleased with the result at the time and are still happy with the quality and functionality today.
